Ankle Pants Obsession

There is a reason for my new obsession over ankle pants. I wanted to find some cute casual pants for work and on the weekends. I wanted it to easily transition to an after work outfit.
Also since it’s heating up in San Diego I wanted pants with a more breathable fabric. Lastly it needed to fit my petite frame. I wanted the option to wear heels or flats with the pants.
I searched everywhere for an affordable pant, some printed and others not. But surprisingly enough Old Navy was the only place I found ankle pants within my budget. Not only were they affordable they had many different colors and print. The best yet, they had them available in petite sizes!!! The fabrics of these pants are 95% cotton and 5% spandex. They are super comfortable. There is two way stretch on the pants so it’s a little forgiving.  These do sit below the waist which I can do without. But these pants hit above the ankle, there is a 27” inseam and a 12” leg opening. So it doesn’t hug your ankles super tight like a skinny jean.

Not Many Options

Since I was a child I can remember I have always been infatuated with clothing. I have spent my whole life creating outfits in my mind and attempting to bring them to life on me. I have come to realize that I have had a distorted image of myself ever since I was a child. They way I perceived clothing fitting on me quite wasn't the case in reality. I would imagine these outfits fitting my small frame and it didn't help that I have struggled with my weight my entire life. To give you a better idea how about being 9 and weighing over 120 pounds. I remember an instance when my mom was looking for a dress for me and we could not find anything that fit.It was the worst feeling ever, and from that day I promised I would never experience that event again in my life.

Now my struggles are not because of weight but because of my height. All the outfits I now attempt the pants are too long, the torso is too long, the sleeves are too long or something always seems to be off.  Perhaps it’s because clothing is made for women that are 5’4” or taller. It's not made for short people like myself at 5' tall. The options are very limited, I’m years past my teenage years yet I continue to shop at teen stores. As a young professional and petite there are not many options. Either you shop at the teenage filled stores or the brands that make petite clothing for older women.

A few years ago I discovered Zara a Spanish company that seems to follow European sizing and fast fashion clothing. Their pants always fit just perfect and are not so long, Zara jeans have changed my life. Without Zara I don’t know where I would shop for such quality and affordable fashionable apparel. Zara's semi annual sale is the best time of the year for me.
